GyrA Mutations in Nosocomial Ciprofloxacin-Resistant Escherichia coli Isolates Associated with Urinary Tract Infections

چکیده
In recent decades, fluoroquinolones have been broadly used to treat health care-associated Gram-negative bacterial infections. Ciprofloxacin is the most commonly used fluoroquinolone for treatment of UTIs as it exists in oral and intravenous preparations (Schaeffer, 2002). However, resistance to fluoroquinolones has become prevalent due to this widespread use (Ena et al.,1998). Mutation in DNA gyrase and DNA topoisomerase IV are the most important mechanisms of resistance to fluoroquinolones (Minarini and Darini, 2012; Moon et al., 2010).Other resistance mechanisms, including, alteration in the outer membrane International Journal of Current Microbiology and Applied Sciences ISSN: 2319-7706 Volume 6 Number 2 (2017) pp. 1902-1907 Journal homepage: http://www.ijcmas.com

High frequency of mutations in gyrA gene associated with quinolones resistance in uropathogenic Escherichia coli isolates from the north of Iran
Objective(s): Regarding the global burden of uropathogenic Escherichia coli (UPEC) infections, prevention and treatment of such infections play a significant role in healthcare management. The inordinate use of fluoroquinolones led to a worldwide spread of quinolone-resistant strains. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate mutations in codons 83 and 106 of gyrA gene in UPEC isolates in the ...
متن کاملStudy of Mutations in the DNA gyrase gyrA Gene of Escherichia coli
Quinolones are a large and widely consumed class of synthetic drugs. Expanded-spectrum quinolones, like ciprofloxacin are highly effective against Gram-negative bacteria, especially Escherichia coli. In E. coli the major target for quinolones is DNA gyrase. This enzyme is composed of two subunits, GyrA and GyrB encoding by gyrA and gyrB, respectively. Mutations in either of these genes cause qu...

متن کاملCiprofloxacin resistance among nosocomial Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus in the United States.
OBJECTIVE We attempted to determine if an increase in resistance to ciprofloxacin occurred among nosocomial pathogens, especially Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus. METHODS We examined 1989-1992 ciprofloxacin susceptibility results from 8,517 P aeruginosa and 9,021 S aureus isolates associated with nosocomial infections reported to the National Nosocomial Infections Surveillanc...
متن کاملAntimicrobial resistance of Escherichia coli isolates from canine urinary tract infections
This study determined the antimicrobial resistance profiles of Escherichia coli isolates from dogs with a presumptive diagnosis of urinary tract infection (UTI). Urine samples from 201 dogs with UTI diagnosed through clinical examination and urinalysis were processed for isolation of Escherichia coli. Colonies from pure cultures were identified by biochemical reactions (n=114) and were tested f...
